Suits Seeks to Block Dissolution of Last Volunteer Fire Department in San Diego County

An attorney who is also running for mayor of San Diego filed suit yesterday on behalf of the last remaining volunteer fire company in San Diego County, seeking to block dissolution of the company by the county.

Cory Briggs filed the suit in San Diego County Superior Court on behalf of the Julian-Cuyamaca Fire Protection District against the County of San Diego Local Agency Formation Commission, the County of San Diego, the Registrar of Voters and several related entities. The suits asks the court to block the dissolution because the process used was invalid.

His background includes 29 years as a career firefighter in Providence (retiring as a Deputy Assistant Chief), as well as volunteer and paid on call experience.
