Civil Rights Suit Against California Fire Captain Dismissed

A civil rights lawsuit against the City of Vallejo, the Vallejo Police Department, several police officers and a fire captain has been dismissed as to the fire captain. The suit arose out of a 2019 tasing incident of a 71-year old man who ignored a police officer's commands

Tased Man Sues Police and Fire Departments

A 71-year-old man who was tased and arrested by the Vallejo Police Department in 2019, has filed a civil rights suit against the city, the police chief, three police officers, the Vallejo Fire Department and a fire captain. John Mark Raudelunas filed suit yesterday in US District Court for the Eastern District of California.

Curt Varone has over 45 years of fire service experience and 35 as a practicing attorney licensed in both Rhode Island and Maine. His background includes 29 years as a career firefighter in Providence (retiring as a Deputy Assistant Chief), as well as volunteer and paid on call experience. He is the author of two books: Legal Considerations for Fire and Emergency Services, (2006, 2nd ed. 2011, 3rd ed. 2014, 4th ed. 2022) and Fire Officer's Legal Handbook (2007), and is a contributing editor for Firehouse Magazine writing the Fire Law column.
