Verdict in Aurora is in: Medics Guilty of Negligent Homicide

The Aurora, Colorado firefighter-medics who were facing criminal charges in the ketamine-related death of Elijah McClain, have been found guilty of negligent homicide. Jeremy Cooper and Peter Cichuniec were called to assist police officers who were struggling to subdue McClain on August 30, 2019.

Colorado Medics Indicted for Manslaughter

Two paramedics from Aurora Fire Rescue are among five people indicted in the death of Elijah McClain in 2019. Lieutenant Peter Cichuniec, medic Jeremy Cooper, and three police officers were charged with one count of manslaughter and one count of criminally negligent homicide.

The Aurora Fire Department is investigating allegations that a social media post by a ranking officer was inappropriate and racially offensive. The post reportedly depicted a man in military attire and stated ““This is what a HERO looks like…unlike the whiny pathetic professional athletes that think they are special.”

Colorado City Settles Fire Department Race Discrimination Suit

The City of Aurora, Colorado has agreed to settle a race discrimination suit brought by probationary firefighters who washed out of the department during their first year for $480,000. The suit was filed in 2015 by two lateral hire firefighters who relocated from Kansas and Florida to Colorado to join the Aurora Fire Department.

Stroke Victim Sues Illinois Fire Department
