Florida Fire District Sues Volunteer Fire Company

An ongoing dispute between a Florida fire district and a volunteer fire company has landed in court. The Key Largo Fire-EMS District has filed suit against the Key Largo Volunteer Fire Rescue Department.

The nine-page complaint filed on July 3, 2014 alleges breach of contract and failure to return excess funding after the service agreement between the two entities was terminated in the spring of 2013.

The fire company formerly provided fire and EMS services for the district under a contract. Due to ongoing problems, the district decided to end the agreement and contract with a different entity. The new entity includes the same personnel from the KLVFRD, but under new management.
