Ten Cleveland firefighters are facing disciplinary charges after it was discovered they were working second jobs at another fire department while scheduled to work in Cleveland. The investigation began after the I-Team from Fox8 revealed that Cleveland firefighters were being paid to work in the Village of Woodmere for the same hours they were being paid to work in Cleveland.
The Cleveland Police Department and city prosecutors investigated and concluded there were no criminal violations from Cleveland’s perspective. The 10 firefighters each face brief suspensions ranging from one to six days. Each will also be prohibited from holding second jobs for between six months and two years.
Cleveland Firefighters IAFF Local 93 is challenging the discipline. Fox8 quotes a statements from the union saying: “Local 93 disagrees with the findings, and we have filed grievances on behalf of our members.”
The story harkens back to the subbing scandal from 2011 that resulted in criminal charges against 13 firefighters.
