North Carolina Firefighter Accused of Sexual Misconduct

A North Carolina firefighter is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a 15 year old girl in his fire station.

Nicolas James Campbell, 30, of the Elon Fire Department, is accused of "making sexual advances, kissing and forcing [the girl] to touch [his] penis." The incident allegedly occurred on July 9, 2013 at the South Williamson Avenue fire station in Elon. It was reported to police on July 27 by the girl and her mother.

Earlier this month, Campbell was arrested on charges of “Taking indecent liberties with children”, a felony. He was suspended from the fire department and on Tuesday resigned from the fire department.

Here is a copy of the North Carolina “indecent liberties” statute

§ 14‑202.1.Taking indecent liberties with children.

(2) Willfully commits or attempts to commit any lewd or lascivious act upon or with the body or any part or member of the body of any child of either sex under the age of 16 years.

(b) Taking indecent liberties with children is punishable as a Class F felony.
