Medical helicopter transports can be a life saver, but after the fact can be a bank breaker.

  1. About 10 years ago when I was in an Acting Captains position, I had a firefighter suffer a heat releated injury.

    A medical helicopter was used to transport him to the hospital. 

    When he came back to work, he brought in the Bill my FD eventually paid-$15,000.00 dollars.

    This was back in year 2000.

  2. I was on an MVA once in about 2002. 1 car roll over. We cut the car apart to get the driver out. She was air lifted out because "she was entrapped". She walked out of the distant ER 3 hours later with 17 stitches. Thats all….oh and the $7500 bill for the chopper ride.
